Chapter 1

So … What are YOU … CHICKEN???

Has anyone ever dared you to do something and then when you refuse called you a chicken? Have you ever done something to avoid being called a chicken? Do you really know what a chicken is and does? Don’t answer that question too fast!  I am about to show you just how much like chickens you and I are!

In God’s Word he uses many things to compare our way of life to and to show us just how valuable we are to Him. He also calls us to look to some things for examples of what he wants us to be or prove His might, power, existence and love.

Job 12: 7 -10  7But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: 8Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. 9Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? 10In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

Some comparisons God uses are:

  1. Branches o n a vine
  2. Trees by a river
  3. A light on a hill
  4. Sheep
  5. Salt
  6. A runner in a race
  7. A wrestler
  8. A soldier

God also talks a lot about birds in His word. In Matthew 10: 29-31 Jesus is telling the disciples just how valuable they are to God and tells them to consider the sparrow, this is an example to us of proof of how we are also valued by God:

Matthew 10: 29-31 29Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. 30But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Jesus uses the fowls of the air to show our value also:

Matthew 6:29 26Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

In Matthew 23 Jesus uses the chicken as an example of disobedient children:

Matthew 23: 37  37O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

God uses the eagle as an example of obedience and how we should be strengthened by Him.

Isaiah 40:31 31But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Now I want to talk to you about some characteristics of chickens.  Let’s see if you recognize any of these traits!

  1. Chickens are crowd followers.

When chickens see other chickens running or gathered, they automatically follow or go to where the majority are.  They don’t know why or even where they are going.

  1. Chickens naturally squabble and fight.

You have heard the term “hen pecked” haven’t you? They will fight over anything!  If one finds something or is perceived by the others to have food, the others automatically want it.  They will chase each other around the chicken coop trying to get the “find” away from them, they are insanely jealous.

  1. Chickens have no interest in the heavenly places.

They walk around the chicken yard all day with their head down, scratching the dirt looking for something to eat.  Most of them never even attempt to fly!  They are earthbound birds and are content to stay that way.  God never meant us to be like chickens in our spiritual nature!

But we are SO much like them!

  1. Go with the flow
  2. Squabble and fight easily
  3. No interest in soaring to the Heavenly places

Chicken living is:

                        Limited

                        Predictable

                        Confining

But chicken living MOST of all is BORING!

Do you ever get bored?  I guess you must be CHICKEN LIVING!

The remedy is simple.  God wants us to be like eagles but he wants to be the one to make us that way, to exalt us to himself.

Obadiah 3-4  The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? 4Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.

Some people think a lot of themselves.  They are the most spiritual people they know! Their pride raises them above others, thinking nothing can bring them down.  You know the type, critical of others, they look down on people not of their own perceived caliber. They are condescending, forgetting where they came from and where they could be if not for God.  They have the attitude of Peter, everyone else may deny Jesus Christ, but NEVER them.

Matthew 26: 33 33Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.

Live like an eagle. What do you think of when you think of an eagle? King of the sky, soaring, majestic, master of his domain or strong?

God does not want us to live defeated petty lives like the chickens but wants us to mount up with wings like eagles.

Some Characteristics of eagles:

  1. Born with their mouth wide open
  2. Always hungry and looking for food
  3. Born to fly
  4. Tremendous Character
  5. Supernatural strength
  6. Sublime vision

Chicken living cannot lead us to a victorious Christian life. The chicken has to die in order to be used, even the egg dies. So we must die to self in order to be used of God.

More than one real estate deal has fallen through in the past six months simply because a bank refused to give a potential buyer the terms they needed to close the deal. Lenders, battered by the banking crisis, are skittish about creating loans for people who don’t meet their newly stringent criteria.

It’s ironic that with real estate prices dropping to enticing levels, banks are so leery of making loans, that properties languish unsold when they could be snapped up by interested buyers.

Recent loan statistics from the American Bankers Association showed that of the eight types of consumer loans the association tracks, only one — mobile-home loans — saw a decrease in delinquencies. That’s not good for anyone looking to get financing.

One solution to this problem is seller financing, a deal in which the home buyer makes a private deal with the home seller and promises to pay a monthly payment, plus interest. It may seem like a win-win situation, but there is a problem. That monthly payment won’t give the seller the down payment they need to buy their next property.

Seller financed real-estate expert Colleen Brooks has a solution to this very real downside of seller financing. She has started Brooks Financial Research, a firm that brings sellers together with note buyers enabling the seller to get a lump sum of cash rather than hold on to that long-term monthly payment plan.

Colleen has launched a website that lists seller’s information enabling note buyers to determine whether they are interested in buying that note. She finds potential note buyers and matches them up with home sellers, giving the seller an opportunity to get a lump sum for their loan.

“Finding a buyer for your real estate note is not something you’d put in a classified ad,” Colleen states. “I gather all the information then list the note for sale and when I get an offer, I contact the seller. It’s as easy as that.”

Colleen worked has a corporate accountant for 15 years, an independent public accountant for 5 years and commercial loan accountant for a bank for 3 years before starting her new business.

Hi everyone!
Colleen here. I am a mom of 5 grown children, and grandma to 6.
I have a degree in Accounting and worked in the corporate setting
for nearly 20 years. I was fired because I was so burnt out I had
a really hard time forcing myself to get up and be on time…I was
late almost daily. Before I left, it really was a mutual parting, I
started to investigate and purchase online marketing programs.
I have been trying to make it in internet marketing for about 3 years now.
I still have not made my first $1,000.

I took a year off to work at a home for troubled girls.
I’ll tell you, that was the most rewarding job I have ever had!
It was also the hardest, most mentally exhausting,
and heart breaking! I had to leave because my husband
was transfered to another state by his employer.

We moved in August this year. The last day at the old house, I had
packed the plants in the car, did my last walk through before
I was to get the 2 dogs in the car and leave, when I saw
a windchime I had missed. I quickly got a stool and…
I had surgery on my shattered wrist the next week, a plate
5 pins and 3 screws later..I am able now to type again!

In October my husbands company informed him and several
others that they would be layed off on December 19th.
My husband, Rick, has NEVER been layed off before. We
have been married 27 years.

We sold our home at a loss. Bought a new home for more
than 2 times the cost of the other. Raising 5 children, our
savings is very small. We are in a pickle.

I started back online in October this year. I need to make
this business work. I cannot go back to the Corporate
world unless I want to have a mental breakdown! I am
involved in several programs but this is the one that
will train me to be able to work the others properly.

I will replace my income and Ricks before February 2009.
All of our bills will be paid and Rick will have the
option of weather he wants to go back to work or not.

I will work my fingers to the bone trying to get
everything set up to run virtually on its own with
minimal time needed to upkeep (10 hours a week).

My long term goal is to open a girls home in Virginia.
The one I worked in previously was a family style environment and
I have not found one in Virginia like it. It is my
passion.

Ok, so the guaranteed $1,000,000 a month opportunity that “couldn’t Fail” ..FAILED. The promised travel to exotic places, is  non existant. The “free” e-book that promised to give you the secrets… get the picture?

I have gotten involved with several opportunities over the years. Some good…some bad.  Over the next month, I will be spotlighting one good and one bad opportunity giving you my experience and opinion.

My intention is to help people to know what to watch for, what words that when used, shout RUN THE OTHER WAY..FAST!! And to bring to light those businesses that work, you just have to be willing to put in the time and energy required. There is no true get rich quick opportunity, except maybe robbing  a bank! But nothing that is ethical, will make you rich overnight.

The very first home based business I did was Amway.  The idea was to use all of their products, get all of your friends and family to use them also and you got paid based on what other people bought. The ultimate thing to work toward was to have a garage full of products that all of the people in your area would buy would come from you or some such thing. I was 18 and really thought I could make it work.. nada. I don’t know of anyone that didn’t get burnt in the end.

The second home business I did was Mary Kay Cosmetics. When I started, Mary Kay was still alive, and very involved in the company. This was in the early 80’s, before the prosperity of the United States had risen, before all of the ’strip malls’ other than in the big cities. Wal Mart was just starting, no cell phones and the PC was just in its infancy..Rember the comodor 64? In other words, not many women could afford Mary Kay Cosmetics. The opportunity itself was great, 50% profit on all sales but you were expected to carry inventory.

Now if you don’t mind the party plan style opportunity, Mary Kay could be just the business you are looking for. Today they have great web sites for the consultants and the reputation of the product itself is next to none. I did make money with this company and I continue to use the products and stay active Click here to see the opportunity. In addition to the 50% profit on sales the company and local directors offer many incentive usable prizes to keep you excited. Several people I know have at sometime won cars, jewelry trips, leather coats etc. You still need to keep an inventory but in todays market, it moves pretty quickly. I won’t give up totally on this opportunity, one of the nice things about it, I can pick it back up anytime I feel like making some extra cash or get the ambition to go even further and make it a full time business again.

Now Mary Kay is not my main business today, but it doesn’t hurt to have several streams of income!

Next time I will talk about 2 internet only based businesses. Stay tuned!

To your success!
Colleen Brooks
